The Nigerian military is committed to enhancing defence cooperation in Africa,  the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa has said.

Musa said this while inaugurating the committee to work out modalities for the maiden edition of  the Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit which will hold  from June 18 to June 19 in Abuja.

“The summit will be a defining moment for Nigeria as a leading force in Africa’s defence and security landscape,” he said.

The CDS said the committee’s efforts would lay the foundation for a summit meant to strengthen cooperation, enhance defence ties and Nigeria’s leadership in military diplomacy across the continent.

“I urge you to approach this task with diligence, ensuring that every detail is meticulously planned and executed in line with the best standards.

“This summit has to be a grand and remarkable event, one befitting of Nigeria’s status as a continental giant.

“It will bring together military leaders from across Africa and we must ensure it reflects our nation’s excellence, strength and organizational prowess.

“You must think innovatively, embrace creativity and incorporate fresh ideas that will make this event not just successful but truly unforgettable,” he said.

Musa urged them to engage relevant agencies, units and individuals whose contributions would be instrumental to the success of this summit.

According to him, effective communication and feedback mechanisms must be established to ensure seamless coordination.

He urged them to also demonstrate efficiency, adaptability and proactive problem-solving in addressing challenges that may arise.

The Chairman of the committee, retired Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Akinjobi, appreciated the CDS for his confidence in their abilities to deliver on the task.

Akinjobi said the summit was another brilliant idea from the table of the defence chief, saying it was about time the African defence chiefs begin to speak to themselves.

He pledge the committee’s commitment to do their utmost best to make the summit an outstanding outing.

NAN reports that the summit to be hosted by the Nigerian Armed Forces is a historic first-of-a-kind gathering that brings together Chiefs of Defence from across the continent and defence industry experts and contractors towards reshaping the future of defence procurement and cooperation in the region.
