The Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Abuja chapter, has donated foodstuff, toiletries, cash gifts and mattresses to five orphanage homes in the Federal Capital Territory.
The group also donated hampers, cakes, snacks and drinks to each of the orphans to celebrate Christmas.
Mrs Taiwo Ojo, the chairperson of the association, said that the gesture was aimed at providing succour for the less-privileged in the society.
She noted that as part of its humanitarian services, the association “is committed to providing for the needy in the society.
“Part of our objective is to be helpful to all those less-privileged children in the society and this forms part of the humanitarian services we offer as members of the association.
“We looked at all those children who lack basic amenities, especially those who are motherless and we took it upon ourselves to make them happy.
“We usually do this towards the end of the year by bringing them together to celebrate the season with them but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to celebrate with them in their respective orphanage homes’’.
She added that the association had also taken up responsibility of some of the orphans in respect to their education.
Ojo called on Nigerians to help the less-privileged in their respective communities, stressing that it would make them feel loved.
Mrs Tricia Adeniji, the Chairperson for Orphanage Committee of the association, said that the association donated annually as part of its social responsibilities.
“As part of our social responsibilities, we decided to visit different orphanage homes every year and we make sure we rotate it because the homes we visited last year are not the same ones we will be visiting this year.
“We just want to touch lives of the orphans in the FCT and we will ensure that we visit as many orphanage homes as we can,’’ she said.
Mrs Ramat Saliu, an ex-officio member of the association, said that seminars and workshops were organised to raise funds to buy the items for the orphanages.
She, however, appreciated the members of the association and their donors for their contributions.
In her response, Sister Bridget Obiekwe, Assistant Matron, Victorine Home for Children, Gwarinpa, appreciated the group for the donation.
“We are very happy for the donations they have given to us, we pray that God will replenish their purses and we pray that God will meet them at the point of their needs,’’ she said.
Miss Rosemary Kumaga, an orphan and a primary four pupil, also thanked the association for the donation.
Other orphanage homes visited include Famous Kids Orphanage Home, Tunga Maje, Christ Treasured Royal Orphanage, Kwali, Lomina Orphanage, ACO, Sabon-Lugbe and Facado Orphanage, Mararaba.
