The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah has called on the newly admitted students at the institution to refrain from drug abuse and cultism, for a better future and healthy living.

Na’Allah, who gave his advice during the matriculation of 5311 newly admitted students on Wednesday, charged them to be law-abiding and disciplined in line with their matriculating oath.

He urged the students to repose the confidence their parents have on them, assuring them of the University’s determination to provide an enabling environment for their academic pursuit.

“Your admission into this prestigious University out of several candidates who selected the institution as their preferred option is a privilege and an opportunity you should not toy with.

“May, I, at this point, congratulate our dear parents, guardians mostly warmly for the success of your children in securing admission into the University.

“Starting off is good but nurturing them through it, is the most delicate part and I wish to implore parents to continue to look after this young adults.

“The fact that they have gained admission to the university does not take them out of range of parental care, parents should continue to counsel them against bad association, negative social influences,” he said.

He added that the university would continue to admit qualified students, recruit competent staff and ensure that they not only add value to the system but make the university proud.

On academics, he maintained that all measures have been put in place to sanitise the overall academic activities and ensure the timely release of credible results by the university. (NAN)
