The University of Abuja has received the donation of multimillion Naira laboratory equipment from the Chinese government for the development of the Institution.

The Institution also launched the Luban Workshop simultaneously in Nigeria and China by the Tianjin Municipal Government in collaboration with the Sino-German University of Applied Sciences and Tianjin Railway Vocational and Technical College.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah said the journey to the launching of the project started on the 14th of November 2019, when Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Sciences and Tianjin Railway Vocational and Technical College and University Abuja jointly signed an MOU in China.

He said it facilitated the Tianjin Government agreeing to build the Luban Workshop in Nigeria, and the University of Abuja was chosen for the project.

“This workshop, no doubt, will contribute immensely to strengthening our opportunities to not only beat the move for educational, technological and economic development of the country, but to be a world class university.

“I would like to assure the government and the good people of China; the government of Nigeria that the University of Abuja is well positioned, endowed and prepared to take up this leadership responsibility with all sense of humility and determination,” he said.

The Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu said the initiative is commendable due to the importance of technical and vocational training to the growth and development of the nation.

Represented by the Director of Tertiary Education, Dr. Kareem Olawale Lateef, the minister said the role of the youths as targeted beneficiary of the Luban workshop cannot be overemphasised.

“The workshop and the equipment we are commissioning today is a product of collaborative efforts between China and Nigeria, this is also as a result of emerging partnership in technological and socio-economic development of our country.

“Also, the state of the art equipment donated will enhance the technical capacity of the students of the university and in turn positively impact on the development of our dear nation,” he said.

While commending the Vice chancellor for working hard to strengthen linkages and sustain partnerships with the institutions and organisation, he urged the students and staff to make judicious use of the equipment.
