  • Sultan of Sokoto harps on importancce of education of children, frowns at begging

    The Sultan of Sokoto, State Universal Education Board and two more it were constructed in Gusau and Kaura Namoda.

    has harped on the importance of education of children and frown at the attitude of children begging in the streets in the name of education.

    He said, “we cannot educates our children by leaving them begging round streets of cities and town”.
    The Sultan made the assertion at the commissioning ceremony of the Zamfara State  Almajiri Integrate Qur’anic Education Center Gummi held in Gummi on Sunday.
    ” I am not a politician but I’m here because of the important I attached to the programme to me and community at large”. He said
    Qur’anic Schools are centers where religious education and values were inculcated to children, but the only source of concern was begging among almajiri students.
    Construction of Integrated Schools is very critical to needs of society as it go a long way in addressing out of school children and end begging in the name of learning.
    He said every Government must put education at the forefront believing that all good things come from education and all bad were from ignorance.
    In his remarks Zamfara State Gov. Dauda Lawal said as a government we will safeguard the feature of younger once thereby creating enabling environment for a brighter future.
    He said the center we are commissioning is world bank intervention project through State Universal Education Board and two more it were constructed in Gusau and Kaura Namoda.
    In addition to 6 class rooms of 45 students capacity and130 double bed space, 12 toilet facilities and kitchen. Also a vocational center to train children on wood work, sowing, Messing work among others.
    He assured government commitment in providing adequate feeding and other wellbeing of the students.
    The Governor then named the center after Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar 3rd.
    The Gov. also commission the upgraded and renovated General Hospital in Nasarwa Burkullu in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, and Maru Genera Hospital which was also renovated.

  • PDP issues certificate of return to Ighodalo for Edo poll

     

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday issued a certificate of return to Dr Asue Ighodalo, as its candidate for the Sept.21 Edo governorship election.

    The PDP acting National Chairman, Malam Umar Damagum, presented the certificate at a ceremony at the National Secretariat of the party in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

    “PDP is one and the party organised and recognised only the primary election which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin and produced Ighodalo as its candidate,” he said.

    “Edo is an easy ride for us.

    “We will emerge victorious. What we should be focused on now is uniting our party and bringing all stakeholders together to ensure we retain our seat at Osadebey Avenue.

    “You have to put in your all going forward. I wish to use the opportunity to congratulate our party’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and wish you success as you go around the state during your campaign,” he said.

    Damagum added: “The PDP is one and we organised and recognized only one primary in Edo which produced Dr Asue Ighodalo.

    “There are rules and guidelines in line with our party’s Constitution. We set up an electoral committee led by the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal as Chairman, and the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwhori as the committee’s Co-Chairman.

    “They held the primary in a transparent, fair, and credible process which was live on several television stations. To the glory of God that primary election produced Dr. Asue Ighodalo as our party’s candidate.”

    The party’s National Organising Secretary (NOS), Mr Umar Bature, also said that the party was fair to all aspirants in the conduct of the primary election.

    “You can disagree with us but history will prove us right that we have done the right thing,” he said.

    Also speaking, Ighodalo commended all stakeholders of the party for their support, promising to transform Edo to a first-world economy if elected as governor.

    “I thank our party members and leaders as well as other stakeholders of the party, especially the youths, who took me through the length and breadth of Edo State during my consultation to become our party’s candidate.

    “I am extremely proud to be a member of this party. I also appreciate our women for their love and support. They carried me on their back from day one.

    “I am grateful for the fairness and transparency of the national leadership of the party. I salute the National Working Committee (NWC) for the transparent and fair manner in which it conducted the primary election in Edo.

    “The MKO Abiola election of 1993 was the closest to what we recorded at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Thursday, Feb. 22,” he said.

    He added: “To youths, it’s our time. By the grace of God and the will of the people of Edo State, we will run a government upheld by youths and with youths. Together, we will turn Edo into a state that everyone will be proud of.

    “I will show leadership and direction. Our youths have promised that they won’t fail.

    “We will show the rest of the world what we can achieve together as a people. We can become a first-world sovereign in Africa. I have seen the path and together, with your support and collaboration, we will achieve this.”

    Ighodalo called for a united front ahead of the September election.

    “I can’t complete this gratitude without acknowledging my co-aspirants, especially those who stepped down for me from the beginning of this process up to the day of the primary election, particularly Omosede Igbinedion,  who stepped down for me on the day of the primary.

    “The contest is over. Let’s come together as one. We need to work together as one team. We must unite to retain our seat at Osadebey Avenue and drive the progress of our state.

    “I promise that this ticket is for all of us. I will take your advice; we will work together in the interest of our people.

    “You’re all great men and women with varying capabilities and capacities. We You’re all great men and women with varying capabilities and capacities,” he said.

  • Lawmaker sponsors wedding of 9 female orphans in Zamfara

    Rep Kabiru Maipalace (PDP-Zamfara) has sponsored the marriage of nine female orphans under his Women, Orphans and Less privileged Welfare Project.

    Presenting furniture and other wedding items to the beneficiaries in Gusau on Wednesday, Maipalace said the gesture was the fulfilment of his campaign promises.

    Maipalace, represented at the occasion by his Legislative Secretary, Mustafa Hassan, said the gesture was part of his intervention to the vulnerable groups under his committee on women, orphans and less privileged.

    “Under the committee, we have identified 41 female orphans and less privileged to be sponsored for marriage by the lawmaker and we are starting with nine now.

    “Today, we are presenting nine sets of furniture and other marriage items procured by the lawmaker for the beneficiaries,” the lawmaker explained.

    Maipalace urged the beneficiaries to respect their marriages and utilise the gesture for their future.

    Also, the Chairman, State Hisbah Commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan, commended the lawmaker and described the intervention as a moral support to the society in general.

    “This will help in reducing economic hardships and vices in the society,” Hisbah chairman said,

    Hassan appealed to philanthropists and wealthy individuals to emulate the lawmaker in supporting the vulnerable groups.

    The Chairman, Zamfara Media Cooperation, Alhaji Bello Dakingari, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the gesture effectively.

    “I believe this kind gesture will be one of the best approaches in reducing the pressure of poverty in the society.”

    In their separate remarks, the Secretary of the committee, Hajiya Sadiya Mahe, and State Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hajiya Kulu Master, appreciated the lawmaker for his concern to women.

    They urged beneficiaries to utilise the gesture for their marriages and respect their husbands for future benefits of their lives.

    Malama Nabila Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the lawmaker and members of the committee for selecting them to benefit from the project.

    “On behalf of all the nine beneficiaries of this programme, we appreciate the gesture and we promise to give priority and respect to our marriages,” Abubakar said.

    According to reports that the wedding ceremonies for the beneficiaries are scheduled to hold in their various families.

    The Permanent Secretary , Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (FMWH) Mr Mahmuda Mamman has assured states of the Ministry’s willingness to partner and collaborate with them to impact on the people.

    According to a statement signed by Mrs Blessing Lere -Adams, Director, Information, FMWH, Mamman made this assurance while hosting the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dr Dauda Lawal in Abuja over the weekend.

    The Permanent Secretary said the ministry was willing to collaborate and partner with states in order to make life more meaningful for all Nigerians not necessarily only the people of Zamfara state.

    He said the ministry was there to serve the interest of the country.

    Mamman told the governor that the ministry and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA ) would work out a plan to be used as intervention strategy on the Funtua–Gusau Road.

    “We are touching lives in so many ways and we really want to touch the lives of Nigerians especially the people plying that axis.”

    The Permanent Secretary told  Mr Folorunsho Esan to mobilise and put necessary machinery in place to ensure that work started from both ends of Funtua –Gusau Roads in the shortest possible time.

    Earlier, the Governor, while thanking the perm. sec said he was there to seek for partnership with FMWH in different areas of concern.

    “I am aware of what the ministry is dong, in touching the lives of the people across the country, l am also aware that the contract for the dualisation of Funtua -Gusau Road has been signed by the ministry .

    “We are in the ministry for two reasons , first to seek for the support of the ministry to ensure that the contract startes from the Gusau end of the road.

    “And to also draw the attention of the ministry and FERMA to the bad portions of the Gusau –Funtua road.

    “So that it could be fixed before the major work starts for easy movement as the road is in a very bad shape,” Lawal said.

    Responding to the Governors request ,  Esan assured him that Contractors were only waiting for moblilisation advance and as soon as that was done they would start work adding that funding would not be a challenge.

    Esan further disclosed that in 2020 Special intevention projects were signed for Zamfara roads and most of them have been completed .

    “In 2023 we have planned special intervention projects for Zamfara roads as well to make life easy for the people”. (NAN)
