    Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has commended Nasarawa State University, Keffi for performing well in the area of revenue generation, human and physical development.

    The House also gave kudos to the Vice Chancellor for his innovations and transformations in the university.

    Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman House Committee on Education gave the commendation when the Management of the university and management of Nasarawa State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board appeared separately before the committee on their 2024 budgets defence in Lafia.

    Hon Abel said that the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed is making the State Assembly and the entire State proud via his laudable polices, programmes and projects in the institution.

    “Nasarawa State University, Keffi is our proud as it has produced qualified graduates in different fields.

    ” The VC is also making us proud as you are taking the university forward.

    ” Mr VC you are doing a very good job in the university. From the records before us you are doing well in terms of IGR, structure and academic excellence.

    “The committee will join hands and support you to succeed,” he said.

    Hon Abel assured of the committee readiness to address the challenges facing the institution.

    The committee chairman also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his passion for the education sector, particularly the university.

    ” We are ready to partner with you and the state government to achieve the dreams of establishing the university

    ” As His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule is doing well in the education sector,” he said

    Earlier, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, the Vice Chancellor of the University, appreciated the committee for its continuous support in taking the university to the greater height.

    ” The university has grown and still growing and I will continue to do my best in taking the university to the next level of development.

    ” We will continue to maintain academic standard for the overall development of the education sector,” he said

    The VC, however appealed to the committee to intervene in the area of its personnel cost in order to take care of the new courses introduced in the school among others.

    In his remark, Alhaji Bala Ahmed 11, the Registrar of the university thanked the committee for its support to enable the university succeed.

    He said that Nasarawa State University has changed for better due to the leadership style of the VC.

    Also appeared before the committee was the management of Nasarawa State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board where the General Manager, Dr Idris Umar appreciated the committee for the support the board was enjoying from them and called for its sustenance.

    He said that the board has trained youths and other peoples of the state in different skills acquisition programmes for the overall development of the state.

    The General Manager appealed to the committee to intervene to absorb it’s casual staff as well as called for more funding.

    Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the Committee assured the board of addressing its challenges.

    He commended the board for training the youths of the state thereby reducing youths restiveness and unemployment in the state.

    The committee chairman also appreciated Gov. Sule for prioritizing youths development in the state .

    ” His Excellency, Engr. A A Sule has passion for the youths of the state. We will support him to succeed,” he said

    Also appeared before the committee was the management of Special School, Lafia led by its Head, Dr Andrew Yakubu where he appreciated the committee for doing a good job.

    He assured of being up and doing in improving on the standard of education in the school.

    The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Abel Yakubu Bala urged them not to relent in their efforts in maintaining standard in the school.

    Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged the State Internal Revenue Service to generate more revenue into the coffer of the state of government in 2024.

    This is coming even as the House commended the performance of the service in the year under review.

    Hon Hudu A Hudu, the Chairman the Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation made the call when the State Internal Revenue Service appeared before the committee to defend its 2024 budget in Lafia.

    He said that government would execute more projects if it has more money in its coffer.

    The Committee Chairman commended the service for generating revenue to the coffer of the state government and urged them to do more in 2024.

    He also assured of the committee support to the service to succeed.

    Earlier, Alhaji Ahmed Yakubu Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of the service assured of his readiness to generate more revenue to the coffer of the state government.

    He also appreciated the House and Gov. Sule for supporting the activities of the agency to succeed.

    The Executive Chairman also assured of its readiness to take the service to the next level of development.

    Also appeared before the committee to defend its 2024 budget was the management of the State Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) where the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Hudu A Hudu urged the Bureau to continue to follow due process in the award of contracts and execution of government projects.

    Hon Hudu said that if BPP continue to adhere strictly to due process, it would ensure transparency and accountability in execution of government policies.

    The committee chairman assured the bureau of support to succeed.

    “We will continue to support and partner with you in order to ensure transparency and accountability in government activities,” he said.

    Earlier, Mr Umar Alli Mohammed, the Acting Director General of the Bureau said that he would continue to ensure that due process is followed in the award and execution of government projects in the state.

    He thanked the assembly for always giving attention to the bureau to succeed.

    Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has assured of its readiness to ensure that quality and affordable education is provided to the people of the state.

    Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman House Committee on Education gave the assurance when the Ministry of Education appeared before the committee on its 2024 budget defence today in Lafia.

    Hon Bala said that the importance of education to the development of the state cannot be overemphasized.

    ” His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule has invested so much in the education sector.

    ” As he has zeal and passion for the education sector.

    ” We will give him the maximum support to succeed in achieving his dreams in the education sector,” he said.

    Hon Bala assured of the committee support to ensure the ministry’s budget is giving all the necessary approval.

    He called on the management of the ministry to continue to be up and doing in ensuring that the right things are done for the overall development of the education sector.

    Also appeared before the committee was Management of Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 polytechnic Lafia led by the Rector, Dr Justina Kotso where she appreciated the committee and Gov. Sule for prioritizing polytechnic education in the state.

    Kotso assured of her administration readiness to be up and doing in taking the polytechnic to the greater height.

    Responding, Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the committee assured of the committee’s commitment to support the polytechnic to succeed.

    He urged them to ensure that quality polytechnic education is provided to the students.

    The Committee also played host to the management of College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Lafia on its 2024 budget defence.

    Nasarawa State House of Assembly has today commenced 2024 budget defence for Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs of government.

    The House commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for developing the education sector in the State especially given the education sector a lion share in the budget.

    Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman, House Committee on Education and Deputy Majority Leader of the House gave the commendation when the Ministry of Science,Technology and Innovation appeared before the committee to defend its 2024 budget today in Lafia.

    Bala assured of the committee’s commitment to promote science and technical education in the State.

    He said that the importance of science and technology could not be overemphasized, hence the need of the assembly’s readiness to support the ministry to succeed.

    ” I want to appreciate His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for his passion on the education sector, particularly science and technical education in the state.

    ” We will support the state government to succeed in its good science and technical education policies and programmes.

    ” We also want to assure you that we will do our best in ensuring releases of funds to enable you execute projects, ” he said.

    Also appeared before the committee to defend its 2024 budget was Nasarawa State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (NASITDEA) led by its Director General, Haruna Sani where he appreciated the committee for always supporting its activities to succeed.

    The director general assured of his determination to take the agency to the next level of development.

    On his part, Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the committee assured of the committee readiness to support the agency to succeed.

    ” We are always available to partner with the government to boost ICT in the state.

    ” We will support you to achieve the dreams of your agency,” he said.

    The committee also played host to management of the State Teachers Service Commission (TSC) led by its Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gada where he assured of the commission’s commitment to ensure quality education in the state via effective supervision of teachers.

    The chairman appreciated the committee for supporting its activities to succeed.

    Gada said that the commission has plan to train teachers for optimal productivity in the state.

    He said that the commission has only one functional vehicle while appealing to the committee to help to secure more vehicles for the commission.

    ” We have a lot of work to do, to supervise and monitor teachers. We want this committee to intervene on this matter for improved standard of education,” he said

    On his part, Hon Usman Labaran Shafa, the Secretary of the Commission appreciated the committee for the needed support given to the commission to succeed.

    ” On our part we will continue to recognize the committee in our activities,” he said.

    Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has expressed optimism that Gov. Abdullahi Sule would construct Kokona/ Bassa/Angiri roads in order to reduce the hardship being faced by people plying the road and improve on their standard of living..

    The Speaker stated this while playing host to traditional rulers and groups who are on congratulatory visit to him in his country home, Angiri, Kokona LGA today.

    The Speaker urged the people to shun religious politics in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the country.

    Rt. Hon Jatau called on all groups and other people of the state to continue to pray and support Gov. Sule to succeed.

    He said that Gov. Sule has done well and still doing his best in developing the state.

    The Speaker promised to ensure the his people get employment promising to empower the people of his constituency.

    He urged the people of his constitency and the state at large to co-exist peacefully for development to thrive.

    In a related development, the Speaker also paid a traditional homage on the Village Head of Uke Community, Mr Ibrahim Usman to receive his royal blessings, prayers and support.

    The groups said that the visit was to congratulate and rejoice with Speaker Jatau on his emergence as Speaker of the state legislature.

    Similarly, Rt.Hon Danladi Jatau, has distributed wrappers and cash to widows and elderly women in his constituency.

    Rt.Hon Jatau urged those who are yet to benefit from his gesture from the six electoral wards of his constituency to be patient, saying that the gesture will be in phases.

  • Bingham University commends outgoing vice chancellor

     

    Staff of Bingham University has commended the Vice chancellor, Prof William Qurix, for his transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to the institution.

    They gave the commendation at a valedictory general staff meeting with all cadres of staff in attendance.

    Prof. Quirx while addressing the staff reminisced some of the challenges faced from when he assumed office in January 2018.

    He said, “the university was marred by financial woes, governance challenges and a looming withdrawal of its licence which at the time required drastic measures.

    “The journey from old Bingham to the revitalised new Bingham was achieved by strategic planning to include restoration of the university image among ECWA members.

    “The establishment of additional faculties and programmes led to a robust increase for students enrollment, payment of all outstanding salaries and pension liabilities, successful collaborations and partnerships.

    “The university witnessed unprecedented growth with the student population soaring from 2500 in 2018 to over 7000 undergraduate and 2000 postgraduate student in 2023”.

    Qurix said “in spite of facing challenges such as COVID 19, security concerns, financial constraints, infrastructure inadequacies, the university demonstrated resilience”.

    He emphasised on the importance of teamwork in maintaining the trajectory of growth and excellence of the institution.

    Qurix expressed deep appreciation to the management and the university community for their dedication and efforts in restoring the institution image.

    Prof. Dul Johnson, deputy vice chancellor, Bingham University, expressed deep appreciation for Qurix for his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in restoring the image of the university.

    He called attention to the vice chancellor’s transformative leadership, recognising the stride made in academic excellence and infrastructural development.

    Members of the university community from various quarters spoke unanimously about the VC exemplary leadership.

    They described Qurix as a dedicated and hardworking professional who possess a compassionate father figure.

    They wished him well as he will be leaving the office on Jan. 8.

    The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Finance, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi, has commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for performing exceptionally well in almost sectors of the economy in 2023 fiscal year.

    The commissioner made the commendation while addressing newsmen after the governor presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill before the state House of Assembly on Friday in Lafia.

    She said that in 2023, the state has achieved a lot in implementation of its projects, policies and programmes
    “Which has improved on the standard of living of the people of the state.

    “If you look at the implementation of 2023 budget, His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule has done well.

    “He has done exceptionally well in almost all sectors of the economy and this has changed the standard of living of our people positively,” she said.

    The commissioner expressed optimism that the 2024 budget would address the economic and other challenges facing the state, thereby raising the standard of living of the people.

    “2024 budget by God’s grace will address the economic and other challenges facing the state.

    “As there will be completion of ongoing projects, provision of more infrastructure and other critical needs of the people of the state,” she added.

    On the N2.8 billion 2023 Supplementary budget sent to the House by Sule, the commissioner said that the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill was necessary due to array of projects executed in the year under review.

    Munirat also commended the state legislature for the consideration of the supplementary budget and the promise to give the 2024 Appropriation Bill accelerated hearing.

    Besides, the commissioner called on the people of the state to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and live peacefully with each other for development to thrive.

    It would be reported that Gov Sule presented the 2024 budget proposal of N199.9 billion to the state House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

  • Nasarawa Assembly gets new Speaker

    Rep. Danladi Jatau representing
    Kokona East (APC) has emerged new
    Speaker of the Nasarawa State House
    of Assembly.
    His emergence came within 48 hours
    after the Appeal Court sacked the
    former Speaker, Ibrahim Balarebe
    Abdullahi.
    Rep. Mohammed Oyanki, representing
    Doma South (PDP) as Deputy Speaker.
    The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on
    Tuesday in its late hour’s verdict,
    sacked the Speaker of the State
    Assembly.
    The Speaker, before his sacking
    was a member of the APC in the State and a longest ranking member in the State House of Assembly.
    The verdict was delivered by the Court
    that sacked lbrahim, had the candidate
    of the main opposition People’s
    Democratic party, Sa’ad Abdullahi
    lbrahim declared as the rightful winner
    of the March 18 2023 election for the
    Umaisha/Ugya State Constituency.
    The action is not unconnected with
    tomorrow’s budget presentation by
    Governor Abdullahi Sule to the
    Assembly where a Speaker will preside
    over.
