  • VON partners DEPOWA, urges citizens to respect Armed Forces

     

    The Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba-Ndace, has said that VON would partner with Defence and Police Officers’ Wife Association (DEPOWA) to project its positive and humanitarian activities to the world.

    The VON boss stated this during a courtesy visit to the National President of DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Musa, on Thursday in Abuja.

    He said VON was established to tell and shape the narrative of Nigeria, Nigerians, Africa and Africans, including the Nigerian Armed Forces and DEPOWA.

    “We do these by broadcasting in eight languages such as English, French, Arabic, Swahili, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Fulfulde.

    “We are also talking with Chinese Embassy to start broadcast in Madarin and other foreign languages.

    “As D-G, working with my team, we have decided that we will be intentional and unapologetic in narrating the Nigerian stories, including the positive work that DEPOWA is doing for the youths and women in the barracks.

    “I also want to commend you for all the works you are doing for widows in the country. You have a willing partner in VON, to partner and cover all your activities.

    “President Bola Tinubu is committed to ensuring that the armed forces are given the best motivation and logistics to deliver on their mandate.’’

     

    While commending the troops fighting for the safety of the country, he noted that some officers have not seen their families for over five months.

    According to him, some even paid the supreme price.

    “Only God will bless them.

    “I also want to call on Nigerians to appreciate and respect our armed forces. Let’s respect our combatants’ armed forces who put their lives on the line,” Baba-Ndace said.

    He stressed that even in death, armed forces should be respected by Nigerians.

    The VON boss condemned the attitude of some Nigerians who spread fake news, misinformation and disinformation about the armed forces on the social media.

    He called on citizens to respect and appreciate the armed forces paying the supreme price in the line of duty for the safety of the country.

    Responding, the DEPOWA National President, appreciated Baba-Ndace for the support and partnership offered to DEPOWA by VON.

    “We have skill acquisition and leadership programmes for the less privileged and other members of the society and barrack community.

    “We will also be having more programmes in the coming weeks.

    “Our husbands are doing a lot, but people go to the social media and spread fake comments and information that are discouraging.

    “But we thank God that VON is also fighting fake news,” Musa said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Baba-Ndace and his team were taken on a tour of facilities and programmes DEPOWA is currently coordinating for the youths and women. (NAN)

  • VON is building partnership with VOA, BBC Radio France, others- D-G

    The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malami Jibrin Baba-Ndace, says the agency in the last six months has been building relationships with international broadcast Organisations to meet up with global best practices.
    Baba-Ndace said the organisations include Voice of America (VOA), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Radio France and others.
    The VON boss stated this when the House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values  visited the agency on an oversight function on Tuesday in Abuja.
    The Committee was led by its chairman, Mr Fatoba Olusola Steve.
    Baba-Ndace said the Agency has 15 directors and two broadcast studios in Lagos and Abuja, adding that, it broadcast in four local and four foreign languages.
    “While the local languages include Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Fulfulde , the foreign languages are Swahili, French, Arabic and English. We are planning to also start broadcasting in Madarin, Bayesa in Indonesia and Portuguese.
    “So as VON, my step and the things we are doing which is to ensure that we consistently work with existing partnership with all media organisations.
    “Since my assumption to office in the last six months, I have been activating and building partnership with organisations similar to ours, like VOA, BBC, Russia Broadcast, Radio France and others.
    “This is to ensure we meet up with the global best practices. I have also visited a lot of embassies based on existing relationships to see how we can deepen relationships.
    “For instance, just recently, I visited the Tanzania embassy, because they are our gateway to Swahili speaking Eastern African countries,” Baba-Ndace said.
    He further explained that VON has a robust digital Platforms where it share and tell the Nigerian, Nigeria, African and Africa ‘s stories and narrative through various applications.
    In his remarks, Steve said the aim of their visiting to VON was to familiarise themselves with the activities of the agency and carry out an oversight functions to ensure government policies and programmes are effectively implemented.
    He added that they were interested at ensuring that the approved appropriation and parliamentary allocation are use judiciously to maintain public trust in governance.
    “We also want to ensure accountability in the nation’s policy implementation and value for funds to checkmating corruption and misapplication of appropriated funds”.
    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Committee and VON later entered into a close door meeting to discuss in camera, and after the meeting, the committee was taken on a tour of VON facility at its transmission station in Lubgbe.  (NAN)

  • Nasarawa Speaker mourns as former EYM President Anyuabaga passes on

    Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has received with great shock and heart broken the news of the demise of former President of Eggon Youth Movement (EYM) Comrade Daniel Anyuabaga Yaro.
    A statement by Press Secretary to the Speaker Jibrin Gwamna quotes the Speaker Danladi Jatau as describing the passing on of the youth leader and an activist as a big blow and colossal loss to the Eggon Nation and the State at large.
    Speaker Jatau condoled with his immediate family, friends, associates, the Eggon Nation and the State at large over the sudden exit of Anyuabaga Yaro.
    He urged all to see his demise as the will of God who gives and takes life at his own appointed time and prayed God to bless his soul.
    It was reported that the former Eggon Youth Leader died at the National Hospital Abuja today Saturday as a result of brief illness.

  • VON offers NIGCOMSAT platform to enlighten citizens

    The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba-Ndace has offered it platform to the Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) to enlighten citizens and global community on the good works of the company.
    Baba-Ndace presented the offer when he and his management team paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mrs Nkechi Egerton-Idehen on in Abuja.
    “We are here to thank you for all that you are doing and to also say that, as government organisations, we need to work together and enlighten the citizens and global community of the good works that you are doing.
    “VON was established to focus on building positive narratives about Nigeria, Nigerians, African and Africans. It is important for us to be delibrate and intentional in projecting the positive narratives in the country.
    “People need to know the good things happening in NIGCOMSAT, especially now that we have a president and Commander-in-Chief that is courageous and bold in projecting Nigeria.
    “We project positive narrative in eight languages such as Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Fulfulde, Arabic, French, English and Swahili and hoping to start broadcasting in Portuguese and other languages in Asia.
    “We offer you a weekly programme to project your activities. It could be 30 minutes or more. Once you get VON, your activities will be broadcast in the eight languages. You need to let the world know what you are doing,” Baba-Ndace said.
    The VON boss also requested Egerton-Idehen to help his organisation with linkages to improve its broadcast, adding that, while NIGCOMSAT control the air space, VON control the air waves.
    “We also want to work with you to address fake news, misinformation and disinformation. Nigeria is not the worst country in the world, we have good things happening  here”.
    Responding , the NIGCOMSAT boss said there is need for Nigerians to own their narratives and tell their stories by themselves.
    “We want to do more, and am happy, because, you are here. We need collaboration, not only with private but government organisations. We cannot put a satellite without your support.
    “NIGCOMSAT is about to do great things, but the challenges we face is fake news, misinformation and disinformation. So, we need to collaborate and be ahead all the time.
    “Nigeria is the only country in West Africa that have satellite in the space. We have over 200 staff here and we are doing the work without foreigners working with us.
    “We have people working behind the scene to help the military in Zamfara and Borno. We need to tell the story so that people would understand what we are doing.
    “We are open to partnership with you. If there is any way we can help you in broadcast, transmission and other areas, we will do it. There is so much we can do,” Egerton-Idehen said. (NAN)

Danladi Jatau, has advocated for more collaborative efforts to end the number of out -of-school children, child labour, street begging and hawking as well as all other forms of violence against children in the society.
    This, the State Number Three Citizen said the House under his watch will continue to enact laws and make resolutions that will protect the rights of children as future leaders.

    Speaker Jatau while describing children as special gifts from God said there is the need for parents, guidance and the authorities concern to ensure that the Nigerian child is given all the necessary support through love, education and moral training to build an egalitarian society for the betterment of all.
    The Nasarawa State Number One Lawmaker lamented on the growing rate of out-of-school children, child labour, street hawking and begging as well as all forms of violence against children and emphasized the need for collective responsibilities to tackle the menace in the society.
    “If parents, guardians and other stakeholders as well as individuals and groups join hands with government in tackling child abuse, child labour and other forms of violence against children in the society, it would go a long way in promoting peace, unity and societal development’’
    He described education as the best instrument to fight poverty, other societal vices and a lasting legacy to give a child hence the need for parents and guardians to give topmost priority to the education of their children.
    The Speaker reiterated the state assembly’s commitment to continue to support any government children policies and programmes as well as make laws that would protect the right of children and better their lots in the society.
    He advised parents and guardians to reflect on the significance of the day and do the needful for the benefit of all.
