  • Scam: I do not have social media accounts, says JAMB Registrar

    The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that he does not have a social media accounts while calling on the general public to disregard the social media accounts created in his name.

    The Registrar made this known in a statement by the board’s Head of Pubic Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

    ” The attention of the Board has been drawn to a LinkedIn account purported to be the account of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, and sending friend requests to members of the public.

    ” This is a ploy initiated with the sole aim of defrauding gullible members of the public.

    ” The Board wishes to state that Prof. Is-haq Oloyede does not own or operate any social media account and neither has he asked anybody to open or manage one on his behalf.

    ” LinkedIn is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. As such, it should be noted that the goal of the site is to enable registered users to connect with people they know and trust professionally. Prof. Oloyede does not belong to this class of individuals nor intend to join.

    ” This disclaimer became necessary in view of some unscrupulous elements, who have purportedly opened a LinkedIn account on his behalf to hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public with their bogus claims of the erudite professor helping to network business enterprises, managing careers, providing jobs, running a research firm or connecting people with business contacts of firms or industry through the account.

    ” The Board urges the general public to be wary of these criminal elements so as not to fall victims to the scammers,” he said.

  • JAMB calls for review of civil service law

    The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has called for the review of relevant civil service laws to address issues bothering on the death of a staff on the eve of retirement.

    Oloyede made the call in Abuja on Tuesday at the retirement ceremony held in honour of 24 staff of the board who have attained the compulsory retirement age of 35 years of service.

    He expressed worry over the current laws on retirement leave gap such that if a staff dies on the eve of his retirement, he would not be entitled to even a posthumous check of retirement benefits.

    Oloyede described the retirement ceremony as a joyous event as the staff were retiring without blemish when there were some who started with them but were not there to finish well.

    He advised the retirees to be thankful to God for a meritorious service to the country and the grace to peacefully retirement.

    He said that six directors were among the retirees while the Former Director of Test Administration at JAMB, Dr Yusuf Lawal, had transferred his services to the University of Abuja.

    He commended Lawal and the outgoing staff for their enormously contribution toward the attainment of the goals of the board.

    According to him, all the retirees have spent 35 years prescribed in the civil service laws, some of who commenced their services with the federal civil service in 1987.

    Earlier, the Director of Human resources, Mr Mohammed Shehu, while congratulating the retirees, appreciated them for their contribution towards the growth of JAMB.

    The retiring directors include: Dr. Haliru Bakori, Raphael Oise, Isyaku Kankiya, Babatunde Bamisaye, Dupe Ayoson, Sunday Aladegbaye and Akinyele Ariyo.

    Responding on behalf of the retirees, Dr Haliru Bakori, thanked the board and management for honouring them; as well as their co-staff for being part of the journey through their years of service to the country.

    Bakori prayed for those still in service that they would also retire hale and heart.

  • Anti-corruption group withdraws petitions against JAMB registrar, warns detractors

    A prominent anti-corruption group and civil society organisation (CSO), Transparency Advocacy for Development Initiative (TADI), says it will withdraw all petitions written against Registrar of Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede.

    Director of Media and Advocacy of TADI, Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu, who made this known at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, said the group has carried out a thorough scrutiny of the allegations contained in the petitions and found them not only unfounded but baseless.

    While warning detractors against spreading malicious and misleading allegations against Oloyede with the aim to impede successes being recorded in the Board, Matazu said TADI was misled in sending petitions to several quarters over fake allegations against the JAMB boss.

    His words : “For the records, our organization Transparency Advocacy for Development Initiative (TADI) sent a petition to the relevant Anti-corruption agencies with a view to causing them to jumpstart a thorough investigation about corruption allegations
    in JAMB under the watch of Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

    “Having being furnish with details of the activities of the Registrar and the way he manage public funds under his watch over the years we make bold to state that the information we got from our
    sister organization was misleading and do not depict the true happenings in JAMB.

    “And when we investigative further, we found out that some people who are not happy with the reform the man has embarked upon which is aimed at sanitizing JAMB to deliver on its core mandate have been the ones misleading the public and are the sponsors of the spurious allegations of corruption against the Registrar
    because he has succeeded in stopping their business as usual for the intertest of the nation.

    “As a Civil Society Organization that has integrity as our watchword we cannot continue to be part of the selfish motive of some few corrupt individuals in JAMB that want to return the Board to the old ways and are hell-bent on dragging a man of integrity to the mud.

    “The Hallmark of true leadership is to own up and take responsibility for decisions made regardless of the outcome.”

    While saying TADI initiated its earlier action against JAMB following a petition by its sister organisation, Integrity and Transparency Watchdog, Matazu said the anti-corruption and good governance body is against tarnishing reputation of prominent Nigerians over fake allegations.

    ” We are totally and completely against rubbishing and tarnishing the hard earned reputation of patriotic Nigerians who are diligently working to make Nigeria better.

    ” That’s why we are addressing the media today and inform them of our findings after deep and exhaustive investigation of the
    leadership of Prof Ishaq Oloyede. We found out that the man has deliver beyond expectations,” he said.

    Speaking further, Matazu lauded the several achievements recorded by Oloyede within six years in office, adding that the JAMB boss deserves special commendation for setting several new records in the exam body.

    ” Let me use this opportunity to lay out some of his achievements in
    the last six (6) years; The Prof Oloyede led management has through prudent management of resources, blockage of all corrupt channels yielded over N50 billion to the coffers of the federal government.

    “In his first year in the office, he remitted N7.8b to the Treasury
    Single Account. The highest the Board had remitted in the 40years of the its existence before Prof Oloyede was appointed was less than N70 million.

    ” The credibility of the examination has been improved through the credibility he introduced in the process chains and the inclusivity as of today the Board is one of the most sort after public examination in Africa. The Board daily receives request for partnership from sister organization to train their staff on new forms of the
    conduct of public examination.

    “The Board through the renewed image brought about by the innovations of prof Oloyede conducts qualifying examination for several national and international organizations like the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council for medical doctors who study abroad and wants to practice in Nigeria, it conduct examination for West African College of Surgeon and the West African College of Physicians for different medical specialties, oil companies, EFCC, Immigration etc.

    “To demonstrate transparency and not waiting for any Freedom of Information request for financial transactions from the public, the Board without prompting publishes weekly financial transactions in its weekly publication called the JAMBULLETIN for the public scrutiny. This is the first of it kind in a parastatal.

    “The Prof Oloyede led administration has completely block the corruption in admission by the introduction of an automated admissions platform called CAPS which has remove all human interferences in the conduct of admissions exercise in
    all tertiary institutions.

    ” He has constructed mega CBT centres across the country with befitting office accommodation. It is on this note that we are going to write and withdraw all the petitions we have earlier written to the anti-corruption agencies and to equally pass a vote of confidence on the leadership of Prof Ishaq Oloyede.

    “And we urge him to continue to sustain the tempo and not give in to the evil machinations of those who are trying hard to distract him from the good work he has been doing, ” he said.

  • JAMB adopts cut-off marks for 2022 UTME

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has adopted 140 as the minimum cut-off mark for degree awarding institutions for the 2022 admission process.

    The minimum cut-off marks for polytechnics is 100 while colleges of education is 100.

    This was made known at the ongoing Policy Meeting on Admissions presided by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in Abuja on Thursday .

    The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede had earlier displayed the minimum cut-off marks adopted by tertiary institutions.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)reports that unlike the 2021, the adopted cut-off marks revealed that institutions now have uniform cut-off marks for the 2022 admissions.

    According to him, for federal universities, merit quota remained 45 per cent while that of the state universities falls between indigene quota and national quota.

    “The National merit quota for State institutions is the first 10 per cent irrespective of location of the candidate, 35 per cent allowed to indigenes of the state,” he said.

    A total number of 1,761,262 candidates applied for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Board UTME, while 98,270 applied for Direct Entry into the universities through the board.

    The meeting, however, resolved that December 31 would be the deadline for 2022 admissions into all public institutions and private institutions across the country for Universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

    Meanwhile, the minister of education advised tertiary institutions to adopt a more flexible posture in the admissions process provided all actions were in compliance with the guidelines.

    “Just as in the previous admissions exercises, the admissions criteria still remain as approved and circulated.

    “All institutions must therefore adhere strictly to them and all others prescribed by the regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

    “This is particularly with regards to approved quotas, ratios and other specifications meant for improved quality, accountability and equity,” he said. (NAN)

  • Education minister says data is key to national development

    Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu says the provision of credible and timely data is key to National Planning, policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development interventions in the Education sector.

    The Minister stated this at the 4th National Conference on Education Management Information System (EMIS) in Gombe, the Gombe state capital.

    Adamu said; ”the Ministry is making tremendous progress in the production and dissemination of reliable and timely data.”

    He said that”the 2019, 2020 and 2021 data on the sector have all been processed and are ready for National and Global dissemination.”

    Commenting on the theme of the conference, “Sustainability and Maintenance of On-line Data Generation Using Tablets and Android Phones,” the Minister said ”discussions at the conference will help improve on the automation of data production and management processes in line with evolving global trends.”

    Adamu promised that the Ministry would continue to strengthen Education Management Information system to build it’s capacity needed for quality output in line with international best practice.

    The Minister was represented by the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

    The Governor of Gombe State Muhammadu Inuwa said his administration has substantially revamped the education sector with a considerable increase in school enrollment, literacy, numeracy and positive learning outcomes.

    He said that Gombe state has recorded a lot of improvement in ICT development, infrastructure development and teacher capacity building which would impact positively on education.

    Inuwa urged stakeholders to do whatever they can to improve on education as a matter of priority.

    He expressed the determination of the State to cooperate with all stakeholders to uplift NEMIS in the interest of the Nation and indeed Gombe state.

    The Governor was represented by his the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Manasah Daniel Jatau,

    The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew Adejo called for stronger synergy and cooperation between stakeholders in the funding of National Education Management Information System for enhanced and optimum performance.

    Adejo was represented by the Director of Information and Communication Technology in the Ministry, Abubakar Isa.

    The UNESCO Country Representative, Dr. Ngozi Amanze expressed the commitment of the organisation in supporting EMIS in the area of capacity building for optimum performance.

  • JAMB released results 2022 UMTE

    The 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results has been released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

    The Board has also warned candidates not to fall into the hands of fraudsters in a bid to check their results.

    A statement by the Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, asked candidates “to simply send a text message, UTMERESULT to 55019 using the same phone number that he/she had used for registration and the result would be sent”.

    The Board said it has not uploaded results on its website for obvious reasons, saying the above process is the only way to check results for now.

    “Candidates are forewarned that they would, as usual, receive all kinds of messages from desperate fraudsters on how to check their results different from the aforementioned one.

    “Hence, the Board urge all candidates to ignore all such messages on how to check their 2022 UTME results as they are all products of deceit aimed at misleading them.

    “The Board, in line with its desire to adhere to the ease of doing business protocol of the government, has emplaced this user-friendly and simplified process of checking UTME results.

    “This simplified process would also serve to preclude the unconscionable exploitation of candidates by shylock business centres and cybercafes which often take advantage of hapless candidates,” the statement advised.

    Recall that the 2022 UTME, which began on Friday, 6th May 2022 and ended on Friday 13th May 2022, had over 1.7 million candidates.

  • JAMB directs 2022 UTME candidates to begin printing notification slips 

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Saturday, directed all candidates sitting for its 2022 examination to begin printing of their notification slips for the exercise.


    The board gave the directive in a statement, signed by its Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja.


    JAMB said that all candidates,who registered for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could start printing their 2022 UTME notification slips from Saturday, April 30 ahead of the exercise.


    ” The notification slip is available for printing by all candidates who had registered for the 2022 UTME scheduled to hold from Friday, 6th May, 2022 to 14th May, 2022.

    ” Printing of examination notification slip is compulsory for all candidates, as it enables them to know the venue, date, session and time of their examination.

    ” All candidates are advised to print slips on time so as to know the location of their examination centres, date of their scheduled sessions and time of the examination beforehand, especially with the adjustment in examination schedules this year.

    ” This would guide them in making necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise as the board frowns at lateness to its examination and no excuses would be entertained from any candidate, as a stitch in time, saves nine.”

    The board said that printing of slips could be done at any available internet point, private or public, while adding that candidates were to visit https://www.jamb.gov.ng, click on 2022 UTME slip printing, insert registration number and print.

    The board also said that the slip contained candidates’ important details such as, registration number, examination centre within their chosen examination town and the expected time to be at the centre.

    JAMB reiterated that all candidates would be checked into the examination hall using the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM) which was also a register of attendance, in line with its “No biometric verification, no examination” policy.

    JAMB said: “Candidates are also to note that no examination would be rescheduled for whatever reason.

    “Therefore, all candidates are advised to prepare ahead and stay close to their examination venues, if possible, they should pay a prior visit to their centres before the date of the examination.

    ” Candidates are also reminded that the ban on prohibited items is still in force.

    ”Therefore, candidates should be careful not to run foul of the law as necessary sanctions would be meted out to violators of its code of conduct.

    “The list of the banned items within the examination hall include but not limited to; flash drives, smart watches, calculators, recorders, mobile phones, spy reading glasses, jewellery, among others.”

  • SEWGCI commends commissioner for paying JAMB scholarship to Okehi LGA students

    Support for Ebira Women and Girl Child Initiative (SEWGCI) a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has commended the Honourable Commissioner For Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Salami Momodu Ozigi for paying JAMB  fee of SSS 3 Students in Public Secondary Schools across Okehi Local Government Area. 

    Hajia Aminat Daniya Hamza, the President and Founder of the foundation made the commendation in a press statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

    The SEWGCI President while commending the Commissioner for his kind gesture, said the payment will go a long way to cushion the hardship faced by some students in Okehi Local Government Area. 

    However, she advised the beneficiaries to study hard and come out with good grades after the examinations, while thanking the the commissioner for his kind donation. (NAN)

  • Defamation of Character: Spokesperson, JAMB drags Ahmed Isah to court, demands N6bb compensation

    The Head of Media and Public Relations, Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), Dr. Fabian Benjamin, has dragged Mr Ahmed Isah of Human Rights Radio to court over injurious broadcast, false allegations and innuendos which allegedly amounted to defamation of the claimant’s character.

    Also joined in the suit as 1st Defendant is the Premier Broadcasting Ltd (owners of Human Rights Radio) of Plot 1184, Kaura District, besides Games Village, Abuja.

    The suit number. CV/3211/2021 was filed by the Claimant’s lawyer, Mr Chris Alashi, before an FCT High Court, sitting at Gwagwalada and presided over by Justice A.O. Ebong.

    The Spokesperson of JAMB is claiming N6 billion as compensation for general damages for the deliberate, libellous and malicious public broadcast by the 1st Defendant and anchored by the 2nd Defendant, Mr Ahmed Isah.

    The claimant said that on April 16, 2021, between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., the 2nd Defendant, while on air on Human Rights Radio and Television (Brekete Programme), put a call to him via his Mobile No. 080xxxxxxx from the 2nd Defendant’s Mobile No. 08037888880, during which the latter maliciously defamed the claimant by impugning, maligning and discrediting his integrity and reputation as the PRO of JAMB and an academic.

    In particular, the claimant alleges that the 2nd Defendant, while on air, allegedly accused him of forging his Ph.D certificate as well as being incompetent, unscrupulous, among others.

    The Claimant also charges the 2nd defendant for allegedly saying his (Claimant’s) bad behaviour and arrogance, hereditary, were acquired from his parents; that there is no solution to it.

    Hearing has been fixed for 14th February, 2022.
