    Dr Samuel Akawu Anzaku, a Director with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has constructed double box culverts to Angwan Sabo community in Wakama ward, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

    Akawu Anzaku, a philanthropist said the gesture was to connect and boost the socio-economic activities of different communities.

    While donating the double box culverts on Thursday, he explained that it was borne out of his desire to improve on the standard of living and socio-economic activities of the benefitting communities.

    Akawu Anzaku, who is a Director in the Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, said that the gesture would also improve on the agriculture and income of the benefitting communities and its environs.

    “This road will link OLA road to schools, hospitals as well will also link Akwanga/Keffi road, among other communities,” he said.

    He dedicated the accomplished mission to his home town, Angwan Sabo, Wakama, as ”my impeccable New Year, 2024 gift”.

    “This gesture is not out of abundance that I desired to build the culvert but a charitable drive and love for general well being of my people.

    “It all started as a dream when the idea of this street came to my mind as I woke up on the fateful day of New Year, 1st January, 2024.

    “I took a walk in the evening and met it in shambles and no longer motorable.
    “It was an eye sore as a deep gully had developed, completely making it impossible to get across either ends thereby setting the neighbouring houses apart over some decades,” he said.

    The chief veterinary officer appreciated youths for their massive support and providing required labour for the success of the project.

    The director enjoined the community to build trust as a cornerstone of strong relationships by demonstrating integrity, reliability and transparency and live together peacefully.

    “Embracing our diversity and inclusivity are panacea to promoting innovation, shares vision, creativity and richer ideas,” he said.

    The philanthropist appreciated the ECDA President, Mr Mandy David Abuluya, and traditional rulers, among other dignitaries, for attending the event and prayed God to bless them abundantly.

    Mr Mandy David Abuluya, the President, Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA) Worldwide, while inaugurating the project, appreciated the donor for coming to the aid of the community and other surrounding communities.

    “I am happy and Eggon nation is happy for this project, and we are proud of you.
    “This is what we want from our sons and daughters of Eggon nation in order to improve on the standard of living of our people.

    “You are blessed to Wakama, Eggon nation, Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large. Please keep it up,” he said.

    The ECDA president called on Eggon nation and other Nigerians to continue to embrace unity, peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations.
    On his part, the Overseer, Akun Development Area, Mr Moses Anvah, represented by Mr Abbas Abimiku, the Education Secretary of Akun Development Area, also commended Akawu-Anzaku for the initiative.
    Similarly, Mr Adams Makka Nangba, the District Head of Wakama; Mr Audu Musa, Principal, Government Day Secondary School, Aloce; the Village Head of Walagen community, Mr Simon Daniel; and Mrs Cecilia Dauda, a stakeholder in the community, all appreciated the project and prayed God for more blessings to the director and the community.

    They urged other Wakama sons and daughters to emulate Akawu Anzaku in order to improve on the standard of living of the people of the area.

    In a related development, an association known as “Azhili Progressive Club, Wakama, Nasarawa state, under the headship of Dr Sam Akawu Anzaku, has donated assorted books and writing materials to some primary and secondary schools in Wakama.

    Akawu Anzaku, who is the President of the association, led other members to present the educational materials to the schools on Thursday in Wakama.

    He said that the gesture was to contribute their quota to the development of education sector in the area and the state at large.

    The association’s president also said that the gesture was to encourage the students to embrace education considering the importance of education to human and societal development.

    Akawu Anzaku called on parents to send their children to school as well as advised youths to embrace skills acquisition to be self reliant.

    The benefitting schools are LGEA Primary School, Anyi Walagen; RCM Primary School, Aloce; Govt Day Secondary School, Aloce; GSS Wakama; LGEA Primary School, Wakama; LGEA Primary School, Awogenshen; and GSS Awogenshen, among others.

  • Peter Obi donates N75m to mission hospital in Enugu

     

    The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, has donated N75 million to the Annunciation Hospital Health Scheme, owned by the Congregation of Daughters of Divine Love, Enugu.

    “This donation is towards building a College of Nursing Sciences to boost the number of healthcare professionals in the country,” Obi said on Sunday in Enugu while handing over a cheque for the amount to the Congregation of Daughters of Divine Love.

    According to him, the donation is in huge appreciation of what the congregation of daughters of divine love are doing in the area of helping to build a better society.

    He said: “If you look at the wonderful works they are doing, I have to support them.

    “And in line with that, I have been going round talking to friends to help, especially now that they have the intention of building a college of nursing sciences which is critical if you consider the future.

    “Nigeria today lacks basic medical care workers which nursing is number one. They want to build a college for that and I want to partner with them in that direction.

    “I have also spoken to somebody I consider very committed in building a better nation and his contribution is immesurable in supporting such things globally and is now doing so. He is Prof Godwin Ozuo that donated $50,000, which is N60 million, to make the money up”.

    Obi noted that no true Nigerian should be exhausted about building a better society, adding: “We have to get involved because things are becoming more difficult.”

    He said there was a huge need to support what voluntary agencies like the Daughters of Divine Love is doing.

    “They have paid huge bills people cannot pay in this hospital. They also have other facilities they run, where they provide education and they are doing this selflessly,” he added.

    Responding, Sister Annastasia Dike, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love, said “if we had started looking for this money ourselves, maybe in years we may not be able to realise it because of the economic situation of the country.”

    Dike said: “People.are not even willing to give because they don’t have. This is how difficult it is. We are doing this as part of our intention to raise a college of nursing sciences.

    “Of cause you can see how acute the shortage of health personnel is here in  Nigeria now because people are leaving the country to look for greener pastures and do you blame them?”

    She appreciated the philanthropic gestures of Obi and Prof. Ozuo for their donation; while promising judicious use of the money and construction of buildings for the college commencing within days.
