The Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Buba, has called on the Federal Government to reinstate history as a subject in secondary school curriculum.
Buba made the call during the 2025 International Museum Day on Tuesday in Jos.
It would be reported that the event was organised by the National Commission For Museums and Monuments (NCMM) in Collaboration with Eggon Cultural and Development Association ( ECDA).
It would also be reported that the event had the theme, “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”.
Buba, who doubles as the Chairman, Plateau Council of Chiefs insisted that such move would promote the nation’s rich history and culture.
“History as a subject will help us to better understand ourselves, where we are coming from and where are heading to.
“It will help in promoting and preserving our history, culture, values and traditions.
“This is why I am appealing to the federal government to restate history in the curriculum of our schools,” he appealed.
Buba, who commended the Eggon people for organising the cultural activity, said that such events, if organised regularly, would promote unity and peace among the various ethnic groups.
Speaking, retired Justice Sidi Bage, the Emir of Lafia also lauded the Eggon people for putting the event together in order to promote their culture .
Bege, who is also the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Traditional Council, urged Nigerians to be united and peaceful irrespective of their tribal affiliations.
On his part, retired Justice Ahmed Ubangari, the Paramount Ruler of Eggon nation, said that the event aimed at promoting cultural exchange, create awareness and showcase the rich cultural values of the Eggon people.
He thanked NCMM for making the Eggon culture the focus of this year’s celebration, adding that the move had provided viability for the Eggon people.
In a paper titled “Eggon Cultural Values and their Relevance for Sustainable Development in Contemporary Times”, Prof. Victor Dugga, extolled the contribution of the Eggon people to nation building.
Dugga, the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies , Federal University of Lafia, said that Museums had over time provided education and inspired many generations.
“This education are in the areas of human, cultural, social, economic and ecological resources of any society,”he said.
