The National Boundary Commission (NBC) have been commended for effectively managing Nigeria’s borders and for handling the Nigerian-Cameroon border crisis amicably.

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, gave the commendation during his goodwill message at the 11th African Border Celebration on Monday in Abuja.

The event was organised by the commission and supported by German Corporation and the African Union.

According to the minister, NBC has done a lot in border management.

“If you look at the boundary case between Nigeria and Cameroon, the commission’s handling prevented us from going to war with Cameroon.

“The cordial relationship we enjoy today with our neighbours is as a result of the good work of the commission.

“NBC have been doing a lot with the Republic of Chad, Niger Republic, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Sao Tome and Principe.

“You can judge this by the peace achieved and revenue generated,” he said.

Malami, who was represented by Mr Francis Oni from the ministry, said boundaries were not barriers, but bridges for cooperation, economic, social and international development.

He then urged the NBC to continue its good works in effectively managing the borders to ensure that boundary crises were avoided.
