Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has assured the Enugu State Government of increased enrollment in the National Home Grown School Feeding Programmes (NHGSFP) in the state.

Farouq,  in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Nneka Anibeze, on Thursday in Abuja. gave the assurance when she led the enumeration Project Task Team on a courtesy visit to the state governor, Mr , Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

 Farouq, who was represented by the Project Task Team Zonal Monitor, Mrs. Nkechi Onwukwe, assured the governor of the Ministry’s commitment to the HGSFP.

She said that the enumeration exercise was geared towards data collection of all pupils and schools on the NHGSFP, to make provision for more children.

” The NHGSFP Enumeration Exercise is a continuous process, designed to identify gaps in the system so that the policy could be responsive.`

” Results collated will help in the proper planning and documentation of the feeding programmes through the support and involvement of relevant stakeholders,’’Farouq said.

The minister reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment  to expanding the programme to include five million more beneficiaries and stressed that the enumeration exercise was a crucial first step towards achieving the mandate.

Speaking, Ugwuanyi, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Festus Uzor, commended the Federal Government for the NHGSFP and the plan to expand and accommodate more pupils.

The governor stated that the NHGSFP was a legacy which the Enugu State Government would consolidate on.

He encouraged the team to be diligent in their assessment.

“We warmly welcome you to Enugu State for the enumeration exercise of the NHGSFP. We will continue to key into this project to support healthy school meals for our school children.E

” Enugu State Government will play its part to ensure the sustainability of the program in the state and ensure that no child of school age is left behind.

“We appreciate the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for these poverty reduction initiatives and we encourage the Project Task Team to carry out their assignment diligently,’’Ugwuanyi said. (NAN)
