The police command in Ogun says, it has arrested a 27-year-old Internet fraudster popularly known as ‘Yahoo boy’, Obeta John for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Miss Idowu Buhari an HND1 Mass Communication student of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi explained that the suspect was arrested at Ode Remo area of the state on Tuesday .

He added that the suspect was arrested following a distress call received at Ode -Remo Divisional Headquarters of the command that the suspect, who resided at No 3, Mojubade compound, Eredu Ishara, locked himself and his girlfriend inside his room.

The PPRO added that the suspect was beating the girl and hitting her head against the wall, saying all efforts made to persuade him to open the door proved abortive.

Acting on the distress call, he said the Divisional Police Officer, Ode-Remo, Fasogbon Olayemi, quickly led his men to the scene where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door opened.

He added that the victim was quickly rushed to State Hospital, Isara where she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

The state police spokesman stated further that the suspect , an indigene of Enugu State was promptly arrested and taken to custody.

” During interrogation, the suspect, Obeta John informed the police that he is an Internet fraudster and that certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend which she refused to relinquish to him.

“He stated further that it was the argument over the said money that led to scuffle between them which eventually led to the death of the girl,” he said.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
