The Federal Government has distributed engagement letters and tablet monitoring devices to no fewer than 222 trained Independent Monitors (IMs) in Gusau, Zamfara.
Mrs Halima Oyelade, the Special Assistant on Corporate Communications to Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Farouq said,“You may recall that we inaugurated the training of 5000 IMs for the National Social Investment Programme in Abuja on Thursday 4th Feb. 2021.
“The training was carried out across the country including Zamfara from Feb. 2021 to April 2021. Today, I am here to inaugurate the distribution of engagement letters and devices for the trained IMs in the state.
“These devices are equipped with an Application that will be used to report on monitoring activities of the trained IMs.’’
The minister further explained that each IM was expected to monitor a designated number of beneficiaries of the NSIP for the duration of one year from June 2021 to May 2022.
According to her, they will be paid a monthly stipend of N30, 000, after meeting up to 80 per cent of their monthly deliverables.
Farouq added that all IMs were to carry out the routine monitoring of all programmes under the NSIP in their assigned local government areas.
She stressed that they were expected to provide evidence-based reports on findings in the field, submit various categories of reports in accordance with the set timelines of the programme.
“The IMs are expected to attend all training and meetings as required by the ministry, and also take on other duties that may be assigned by the ministry as well.
“However, IMs are not allowed to assign their responsibilities to third parties thus, every independent monitor will be held accountable by the ministry for the task given to him or her.
Zamfara Gov. Bello Matawalle represented by Hajiya Fa’ika Ahmed, the state’s Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development appreciated the Federal Government for the NSIP in the state. (NAN)
